Nail Fungus

This may not be the best news you’ve ever heard, but nail fungus is one of the most common nail diseases, making up 50% of most nail-related medical cases. Fungal infections of the nail are mostly found on the toenail, but they can appear on the fingernails as well. At Skincare Laser Centre, we use the Cutera Xeo, a revolutionary 1064 NDYag laser technology laser treatment, to treat nail fungus in the most effective manner possible.

What is nail fungus?

Nail fungus, also known as fungal infections, are excessive growths of fungi on, under, or in the nail itself. This fungus is contagious, however, it’s harder to catch from another person, unless you are constantly in close quarters with them (ex: partner, roommate). Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, which is why nail fungus is most commonly found on the feet. Since we spend a lot of our time wearing shoes and socks, we create a breeding ground for fungi.

Symptoms?

Fungus can appear on both the hands and feet. Although it should be properly diagnosed by a physician, signs of nail fungus can include:

  • crumbling corner of the nail
  • yellow or white discoloration
  • brittle nails
  • thickening of the nail bed

How do you treat nail fungus?

At Skincare Laser Centre, our providers treat nail fungus using Cutera Xeo, an IPL laser treatment.  IPL stands for intense pulsed light therapy. Using the light-based laser to target the fungal infection, the energy from the light turns to heat and warms up the fungus, destroying any fungi in the targeted area.

How many treatments does it take?

We recommend more than one treatment for best results for no laser treatment can provide an instant solution. Once you have a consultation with your provider, they can recommend the best treatment plan to fit your needs.*
